Golden Triangle / Sob Ruak

The Golden Triangle is the triangular portion of northern Thailand which extends up between Myanmar in the west, and Laos in east.

These days, the 'official tourism' Golden Triangle point of interest is focused 6 kilometres up-river from Chiang Saen. This area is known locally as "Sop Ruak" - where the borders of three countries, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet together, and where the Mae Khong meets the Ruak River. Here, you can stand on the vantage point in Thailand, and gaze across the muddy waters of the Mekong, into Myanmar and Laos.
